Gröna Lund ( Swedish for green grove ) or Grönan ( Swedish for the Greens) is an amusement park in Stockholm on the peninsula attracts Djurgården, the approximately 1.464 million visitors a year ( 2011).

Gröna Lund has not only rides but also theaters and stages for performances. Were on the stages and many national and international celebrities as guests, such as amongst others already Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, The Beatles, Paul McCartney and Jussi Björling. Every summer until well into the 1970s, the popular Swedish troubadour Evert Taube came.

Gröna Lund is the little alley ( Lilla Allmänna Gränd ) into two sections, the old and the new area divided. A small " Spanish Steps " called bridge crosses the " Lilla Allmänna Gränd " and connects the two sides of the park together. In this area there is also a popular restaurant Tyrol. Gröna Lund also has planning permission for the extension of the park to the existing parking lot on the other side of the " Allmänna gränd " (in German about Public street / avenue ) in the north.

The park is open from late April to mid-September. From 2005 to 2008 he was also the end of November until Christmas for less than a month open to visitors, and it in addition to some rides were also a Christmas market. In 2009 it was decided to no longer pursue this.

History

In 1883 the German Jacob Schultheiss rented the area for the set up an amusement park with " carousels and other amusement devices ." In the same year the park was dedicated, he is the oldest and, in addition to Liseberg, the most famous amusement park in Sweden. The name " Gröna Lund " was originally the name of a small garden and later a tavern between Mjölnargården and the Bellmannhuset in Djurgårdsstaden. This inn is mentioned in the letters Fredmans.

Compared to Gröna Lund there were on the other side of the alley to 1957 a competing amusement park called " Nöjesfältet ".

The Lindgren family, descendants of Schultheiss ran the business from Gröna Lund until 2001. Subsequently, it was taken over by Parks & Resorts Scandinavia, which operate including the Kolmården Djurpark and the Skara Sommarland.
