Grönegau

The Grönegau (also Graingau ) is the historic district designation for one of the many, to this day traditional Saxon districts. The area 852 was first documented the Grönegau is a region that is congruent with the area of the present town of Melle in the district of Osnabrück, in essence. The old Gaugrenze went to 800 to the 12th century in the south probably until after Borgholzhausen and Hall, in the east to frets and Spengemann. The first officially mentioned in 1360 Office Grönenberg later include parts of early medieval Grönegaus, including Hall, Borgholzhausen and Borgloh, not more. In 1852, no more boundary changes take place, the expansion of the Office Grönenberg is from this date identical to that of the subsequent circuit Melle and finally in 1972 the City Melle. Even today carry several clubs in the region the nickname " Grönegau ". Also located in Melle at the Federal Highway 30 motorway service station carries this old district name.
