Groß Flotow

Groß Flotow is a district of the city Penzlin in the district Mecklenburg Lake District Mecklenburg -Vorpommern ( Germany ). In the independent until June 7, 2009 Church Groß Flotow lived 158 inhabitants (31 December 2007 ) on 14.53 km ². Last honorary mayor United Flotow was Gisela Ribbeck.

Geography

Groß Flotow is located nine kilometers north-west of the city center of Penzlin, large-scale seen between the cities of Waren (Müritz), Neubrandenburg, Neustrelitz and Stavenhagen. The municipality Groß Flotow belonged to the district of Klein Flotow.

History

Groß Flotow ( Slavic Bloto = swamp ) emerged from a Slavic settlement. In the documents, the village is first mentioned in 1418. However, the early Gothic first church ever built in the 13th century. 1894, the church was rebuilt on the old foundations. Flotow has suffered as the entire region extremely during the Thirty Years' War.

In 1700, a glassworks was established since 1800, this small Flotow is called. Beginning of this century there was in Flotow except the manor house and the reaper barracks simply held only a few farm workers cottages. Most houses built in the typical red brick emerged in the 1930s and later in the 1950s.
