Großdeutschland Division

The Panzer Corps United Germany was a major unit of the German army during the last phase of World War II.

History

As of September 28, 1944 the establishment of a " Panzer Corps Greater Germany " began in East Prussia as " Panzer Corps new style " to guide the Panzer Grenadier Division " Great Germany " and the Panzer - Grenadier Division "Brandenburg". For this strong corps troops were provided. The Corps was initially under the command of General of Panzer Troops Dietrich von Saucken. The lineup was on 12 January 1945, when the Soviet winter offensive began, not yet completed. According OKH command the corps moved with Division Brandenburg in the room Lodz, while the Greater Germany Division remained in the area of East Prussia. Both associations have therefore never fought under unified command.

Regarding the planned counter-attack at Lodz it did not. Instead, the Corps came in the chaos of the retreat into a " wandering pocket ". As of February 1945, a new line of defense in Görlitz could be obtained. The leadership of the Corps took over from 15 March to end of the war General George Jawor.

Other "DG" associations

In a broader sense ( eg. Helmuth Later ) all " Greater Germany " associations are expected to Panzer Corps, although no organizational connection existed. The " Hitler's Escort Brigade" and the "leaders Grenadier Brigade " were relocated to the Western Front in December to participate in the Battle of the Bulge and designated as from January divisions. After the Soviet winter offensive of 1945, Panzer Grenadier Division Kurmark was compiled Frankfurt / Oder in the Cottbus area and thrown immediately to the front of "GD" spare parts troops and alarm units. The " Hitler's Escort Division " and " leader - Grenadier - Division " came after the failure of the Ardennes offensive on the Eastern Front again used. In April 1945, the "Führer - Grenadier - Division " was moved to Vienna to defend and later handed over by U.S. units after capture near Linz in May the Red Army. The " guard regiment bulk Germany " witnessed the collapse in the Battle of Berlin.
