Großer Mittelberg (Lonau)

The Great Mittelberg left in the panorama of Lonau

The Great Mittelberg ( the short form Mittelberg is common) is a ridge in the resin, which begins immediately northeast of Lonau in the district of Osterode am Harz in Lower Saxony. It separates the Kirchtal with the Great Lonau from Mariental with the little Lonau. The place Lonau the closest side peak is at 531 m altitude, although not the highest peak, can be considered as the main peak due to its striking location, however. Starting from here the ridge rises only slightly to the northeast, where there are several side peaks with a low saddle height. In the north, the Great Central mountain passes in the ridge on the field without a saddle.

The Great Mittelberg is almost completely wooded with beech and lies within the Harz National Park.
