Groton is a town in New London County in the south of the U.S. state of Connecticut. In 2000, Groton had 10,010 inhabitants; up to the 2009 estimate, the population fell to 9365.

Main employer in the town is the Electric Boat Company, a shipyard of General Dynamics, which builds mainly submarines for the U.S. Navy. Have so far been launched, inter alia, the USS Nautilus (SSN -571 ) ( as the first nuclear-powered submarine ), which later sunk USS Scorpion (SSN -589 ), as well as several classes of boats Ohio, Los Angeles, Seawolf and Virginia.
