The Real gophers ( Marmotini ) are a tribe of squirrels ( Sciuridae ), among which, among other marmots and ground squirrels.

The following genres are included as well:

• Chinese red squirrels ( Sciurotamias )
• Ground squirrel ( Spermophilus )
• Antilopenziesel ( Ammospermophilus )
• Prairie Dogs (Cynomys )
• Marmots (Marmota )
• Chipmunk ( Tamias )

Fossil gophers since the Oligocene occupied ( genus Protospermophilus ). Ground squirrels, and prairie dogs Antilopenziesel form a closer relationship circle ( subtribes Spermophilina ), which can be faced as a sister group of the marmots.
