GSAT -8 ( INSAT - 4G) is a commercial communication satellite of the Indian Space Research Organization ( ISRO ) / ISAC the GSAT series ( from the Insat -4 series).

He was placed in a geostationary orbit on 20 May 2011 at 20:38 UTC by an Ariane 5 ECA rocket launch site Guiana Space Centre in Kourou, together with ST -2.

The three -axis stabilized satellite is equipped with 24 Ku- band transponders and is from the position of 55 degrees East, the Indian subcontinent with television (DTH ) and radio- navigation services through a two-channel GAGAN system (GPS Aided Geo Augmented Navigation ) supply. To it is provided with two reflector antennas with 2.2 m diameter, 0.6 m of a C-band antenna and a 0,8 x0, 8 m L-band helix antenna for GAGAN system. It was designed and built based on the I- 3K satellite bus of ISRO in Bangalore and has a design life of more than 12 years.
