Guadalcanal Province

Guadalcanal is one of nine provinces of the Pacific island nation of Solomon Islands. For the province include the eponymous main island and several smaller islands in the vicinity ( Nughu, Marapa and Rua Sura ). The area of ​​the capital of the island Republic of Solomon Islands, Honiara ( with a population of 64 604 ( census 2009) and an area of 22 km ² ) is not part of the province, but since 1983 a separate capital district.

From August 1942 to February 1943, the Battle of Guadalcanal between U.S. and Japanese forces took place here. Just north of the island it came from the 13th to November 15th, 1942 under this fighting for naval battle of Guadalcanal.
