The Gubristtunnel is a motorway tunnel in the northern bypass Zurich ( A1/A4 ) in the Zurich canton between Weiningen and rain village. The speed limit is 100 km / h

Construction

The 3250 meter long tunnel was opened to traffic on 21 June 1985. It has two separate directional tunnels, each with two lanes, which are connected by eleven transverse tunnels in a control distance of 265 meters. The preparation of the tunnels in the Untertagbaustrecken with a length of 3000 meters was carried out with a tunnel boring machine with an excavation diameter of 11.5 meters and a breakout cross-sectional area of 103.87 square meters. Here, a molasse was passed through at a maximum of 180 meters coverage. The tunnel boring machine was used by Gubristtunnel for the outbreak of Zurich mountain tunnels of the Zurich S-Bahn and the bypass tunnel Sachseln the A8.

Traffic

The Gubristtunnel is traveled daily average of over one hundred thousand vehicles, take 15 to 18 clock hour over seven thousand vehicles through the tunnel. Extension

On the future site for the tunnel in the rain village there since 2009 ärchaologische excavations, which will last until the start of construction of the tunnel. A special settlement traces could be detected from different eras: Neolithic, the Bronze Age and Iron Age, the Roman period, as well as the Middle Ages. During the excavations, among others already foundations of Roman buildings, grave monuments and roads were dug. Also Bronze Age settlement traces and cremations were discovered. Small finds from all periods include coins, pottery fragments and forged metal parts.

To repair the dissected by the construction of the highway settlement in Weiningen ZH, the tunnel is to be extended to judicial instruction, in the context of the development of a highway cover a hundred meters towards Limmattaler Cross .. The completion of the expansion of the northern bypass occurs in approximately year 2025.
