Gudauri

Gudauri ( Georgia გუდაური ) is a resort in Georgia. It is located 120 kilometers from the Georgian capital Tbilisi on 2196 meters above sea level. NN on the Georgian Military Highway in the Greater Caucasus. The place on the mountain Kudebi ( 3006 m ) is known for heliskiing.

History

Gudauri was originally a coaching inn where the stage-coaches between Tbilisi and Vladikavkaz changed horses. In the 1970s, the Georgian Kinderskisschule moved on and built a first cable car.

The development of the resort began in 1980 on the basis of advice of the Italian tourism experts Iling Hugo and Giuseppe Kanestrini which added to the possibilities of winter sports in Georgia on behalf of the Georgian government. 1988 established Austrian and Swedish investors for around 30 million euros a four -star ski and sport hotel with 300 beds, swimming pool, bowling alley, indoor tennis court and ski lifts.

Hospitality

Winter season

The Fédération Internationale de Ski (FIS ) has reported slopes for slalom, giant slalom, super giant slalom and downhill skiing. Since the 1980s, three FIS competitions and two Soviet ski championships were held in Gudauri.

The winter season lasts from December to mid-April. The snowpack is on average 1.5 meters. In winter 2004/2005 the snow was five feet high. In Fertile snowfall in winter can still be skied in May.

Summer season

The summer season lasts from May to October. In the summer of Gudauri offers walks through the Chada Valley, to Chada hut ( 2670 m) and the Dewdoraki Glacier on. In mountain streams can be fished by traditional methods. In addition, riding tours are offered. The hotel prices fall during this time by around 50 %.
