Gudina Tumsa

Gudina Tumsa (* 1929 in Boji, Oromia, Ethiopia, † July 28, 1979 ) was an Ethiopian theologian and secretary general of the Mekane Yesus Church.

Life

Tumsa helped establish the Council for Cooperation of Churches in Ethiopia, an ecumenical council, and was elected as its first chairman.

Tumsa was first arrested in 1977 and released only to foreign pressure again. The second arrest took place on 28 July 1979. He was murdered by soldiers of the Derg and was named in the subsequent years of Dietrich Bonhoeffer Africa.

After his death and inspired by his life the Gutima Tumsa Foundation was established in 1992 and 2008, the Gudina Tumsa Theological Forum was launched

On March 18, 2013, Federal President Joachim Gauck the grave Tumsas.
