Guido Masetti

Guido Masetti ( born November 22, 1907 in Verona, Italy, † November 27, 1993 in Rome, Italy ) was an Italian football goalkeeper.

Masetti is one of the best goalkeepers in the 1930s and in 1934 and 1938 with world champions Italy.

Playing career

In the club

Guido Masetti began his career with his hometown club, Hellas Verona. At first, he played in the midfield, he was eventually goalkeeper.

In 1930, Masetti moved to AS Roma, where he played until his career end in 1943. His Serie A debut of the Italians on 28 September 1930 in a 1-1 draw in the away game against FC Modena. In the season 1940/41, there was speculation about a change Masetti Calcio Padova to why he was exiled half of the season on the bench. His team was able to escape without the backing in the shot just before the descent then. In the season 1941/42, Guido Masetti was a regular back and won with the Roma under Alfréd Schaffer the Italian championship. Overall, Guido Masetti graduated 339 Serie A appearances for the Gialloross.

In the National Team

Masetti graduated only two caps for Italy, April 5, 1936 and on November 12, 1939 respectively against Switzerland. Still, he could in Italy in 1934 and in France in 1938 under coach Vittorio Pozzo celebrate winning the World Cup. He was in each case substitute goalkeeper Giampiero Combi behind and Aldo Olivieri.

Coaching career

Guido Masetti coaching career was not as successful as the as a player. First worked in 1943 as player-coach at AS Roma and assisted the team during the Second World War, but he was able to win the championship Roman. After that he acted in the same role in the AS Gubbio 1910. Later Guido Masetti few more times interim coach returned to the dugout of the Roma.
