Guido Tonelli

Guido Tonelli ( born November 8, 1950 in Casola in Lungiana ) is an Italian experimental particle physicists.

After the diploma degree ( Laurea ) in Physics in 1975 at the University of Pisa and then worked on particle physics experiments at CERN, including NA1, NA 7 and ALEPH and 1981-1987 at the Fermilab CDF. He conducted research there among other things for new supersymmetric particles and the Higgs boson and made precision measurements of the Standard Model and the lifetime of mesons with charm. Since the early 1990s, he is involved in the development of the CMS experiment of the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. 2010 to 2011 he was its spokesman after he was deputy speaker since 2007. 2012 succeeded where the discovery of a compatible with the Higgs boson particle.

In 2012 he was one of the winners of the Special Fundamental Physics Prize for the likely discovery of the Higgs boson. Also in 2012 he was Commendatore of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic.
