Guillaume Bijl

Guillaume Bijl ( born March 19, 1946 in Antwerp) is a Belgian conceptual artist.

Life

His installations thematize pseudo- historical rooms and typical spaces of leisure and consumer society. His work is a critical and ironic exploration of the cultural tourism. From 2001 to 2011 he was professor of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Münster. Bijl lives in Antwerp.

In December 2007 it was announced that Bijl has become the winner of a Cultural Award in Wuppertal. Consequently, it was set up an installation of it at the end of Duke Street in Elberfeld City the following year. The sculpture named " A new successful day " shows a suit carrying man who performs a handstand.
