Guillén de Castro y Bellvis

Guillén de Castro y Bellvís (* November 4, 1569 in Valencia, † July 28, 1631 in Madrid ) was one of the most important playwrights of Spain's so-called " Golden Age " ( Siglo de Oro ).

Guillén de Castro has written a total of about 35 plays. Remained best known for his play Las Mocedades del Cid (German Youth deeds of the Cid, created 1605-1615 ), based on the romances cycle for the Spanish national hero El Cid and the French author Pierre Corneille as a template for his successful piece Le Cid ( 1636) was used.
