Guliston

Guliston ( Uzbek Cyrillic spelling in the previous Гулистон; Russian Гулистан, Gulistan; until 1961 Mirzachol ) is a city in Uzbekistan with 67 846 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2009) and capital of the province Sirdaryo.

The city is located about 110 km south-west of Tashkent, near the southeastern end of the Golodnaja - steppe ( Uzbek: Mirzachol ) and only reached with the use of irrigation for cotton production an economic importance.
