Gunnar Nilsson (Boxer)

Nils Gunnar Nilsson Lorentz ( born March 3, 1923 in Nevishög, community Staffanstorp; † 12 May 2005 Västra Frölunda, Gothenburg ) was a Swedish heavyweight boxer.

Amateur

Nilsson won in 1948 at the Olympic Games in London, the silver medal in the heavyweight division. In the final he defeated Argentina's Rafael Iglesias.

Professional

His first professional fight he lost on 11 November 1949 in Gothenburg against the Jamaicans Lloyd Barnett by TKO in the third round.

Of his fans, he soon got the fight name "Silver- Gunnar ". On December 28, 1956, he resigned after a knockout victory back in the fifth round of the French Francois Kania from boxing.
