The ships of the Supply - class multi-purpose ships of the Royal Danish Navy.

Ship information

The class consists of two in 1981 at the Ørskov Christensen Stålskibsværft built in Frederikshavn ships. The designs came from Klaus Dwinger.

The ships were operated until the end of 2005 by the Danish Ministry of Environment and staffed by members of the Danish navy. Since 1 January 2006, the ships of the Danish navy to operate. On board the ships occupied with 16 crew members is room for a total of 34 people.

The ships have a range of around 3,500 nautical miles. You can stay up to 25 days continuously at sea.

The superstructure located in the front area of the ships. Behind the superstructure is an open working deck. The maximum deck load is 378 tons. On the starboard side there is a crane. This can lift up to 20 tons. The bollard pull of the ships is 25 tons.

The Gunnar silk thread was in 2001 participate is due to the movement of the ro-ro ship Lisco Gloria in a safe harbor.

Eponym

The Gunnar silk thread is named after the Danish diplomat and botanist Gunnar silk thread ( 1908-2001 ). Silk thread was the Danish Ambassador to Thailand (1955-1959) and in the former Soviet Union ( 1959-1961 ). He was an expert on orchids ( Orchidaceae ) South East Asia and has published a number of works on this genus. Its collection of more than 10,000 plants were donated after his death, the University of Copenhagen together with the original drawings by Katja anchor.
