The mammoth sheet ( Gunnera manicata ) and Giant Rhubarb is called, since the leaf shape is very similar. However, this species is not related to the rhubarb ( Rheum rhabarbarum ). The mammoth sheet comes from the cloud forests of the Serra do Mar in southern Brazil. But it is often found in large parks as an ornamental plant. If you want to spend the winter in Central Europe in the open, you should protect it with leaves, twigs or the like before Kahl frost.

Description

It is up to 3 meters tall perennial herbaceous plant with large leaves and thorny stems, their above-ground parts die back to the autumn the new sprout in the spring. The leaves are basal, that is, they are all formed directly above the ground. The species prefers moist locations.

The flowering period is from July to August.
