Gunther of Pairis

The Cistercian monk Gunther von Pairis (* 1150, † 1220 ) is primarily known for his work Hystoria Constantinopolitana about the conquest of Constantinople in the Fourth Crusade. It goes back to the reports of the abbot Martin of Pairis, who was among the participants.

But he is also the author of the Ligurinus, one written in hexameters with a panegyric epic portrayal of the struggles of Frederick Barbarossa against the northern Italian cities. For this work, he should have been crowned Frederick I to the poet laureate.
