Günther Schifter

Günther " Howdy " Schifter ( born December 23, 1923 in Vienna, † August 11 2008 in Salzburg ) was a living in Vienna Austrian journalist, actor and radio host.

Life

He worked from 1949 to 2000 for the radio (transmitter Red -White-Red ORF) and was replaced by jazz, country music broadcasts ( " Western Saloon " ) and broadcasts about the history of popular music ( " shellac " ) in Austria to radio legend. In 1967 he came to Ö3. With its catchy voice and his " history lessons " - he delivered to each Year of titles played a humorous story and told of the days events at the time - was " Howdy " with the audience very popular. He left in 1999 to retire. He even had one of the largest record collections with 30,000 plates of jazz and swing.

On 11 August 2008 Günther Schifter died after a serious illness in the State Hospital in Salzburg.

In 2011, in Vienna Floridsdorf ( 21st district ) was named the Schiftergasse after him.

The shellac collection Günther Schifters is now in the Austrian library.
