Günther van Well

Günther van Well (* October 15, 1922 in Osterath; † August 14, 1993 in Bonn ) was a German diplomat and Secretary of State in the Foreign Office ( 1977-1981 ).

As Assistant Secretary and Assistant Secretary at the Foreign Office, he was involved in the early seventies in the drafting of rapprochement with the GDR as well as the Four - Power Agreement. As acting Secretary of State, he was appointed by the then Foreign Minister Hans -Dietrich Genscher also to the Personal Representative for Disaster Reduction.

Following his work as Secretary van Well was Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Federal Republic of Germany to the United Nations. After that, he served as German ambassador in Washington, DC

As a former ambassador to van Well engaged as a participant of the ' Bergedorf Round Table ' of the Körber Foundation, among many other personalities for a common understanding of international problems and issues as well as an Executive Vice President of the German Society for Foreign Policy, Bonn.
