Guðrún Helgadóttir

Guðrún Helgadóttir ( born September 7, 1935 in Hafnarfjörður, Iceland ) is an Icelandic children's book author and politician (Alliance).

Life

Guðrún attended high school Menntaskólinn í Reykjavík, where the Abitur ( Isl stúdentspróf ) took off in 1955. Between 1957 and 1967 she worked as a secretary. Between 1973 and 1980 Guðrún department head was ( Tryggingastofnun ríkisins ) at the Social Insurance Institution.

For the Alliance Guðrún sat 1978-1982 in the city council of Reykjavík and was 1979-1995 member of the Icelandic parliament Althingi. As the first woman she was between 1988 and 1991 its President.

In 1974 Gudrun's first book, Jón og Jón Bjarni Oddur, which was filmed in 1981 by Þráinn Bertelsson. 1979 her play Òvitar (English Infants ) was listed on the Icelandic National Theatre. In 1981 Guðrún the úr by Brian Pilkington illustrated book Ástarsaga fjöllunum (German Flumbra - An Icelandic Troll Story ), one of the most popular children's books in Iceland.
