Gus Schilling

August " Gus" Eugene Schilling ( born June 20, 1908 in New York City; † 16 June 1957, Los Angeles ) was an American theater and film actor.

Life

First go as vaudeville and burlesque artist, Gus Schilling stepped 1928-1931 among other things three times on Broadway, before Orson Welles' Mercury Theatre joined and came in several radio plays radio used.

From 1940 he finally participated in American films and this was mostly seen in comic supporting roles, such as in the movie musicals in the hell is the hell is going on! ( Hellzapoppin ', 1941) and You Were Never Lovelier ( You Were Never Lovelier, 1942), where he played alongside Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth the Secretary of Adolphe Menjou. He also appeared in five films by Orson Welles, as in Citizen Kane ( 1941), The Magnificent Ambersons ( The Magnificent Ambersons, 1942), The Lady from Shanghai ( The Lady from Shanghai), Macbeth - The King murderer (Macbeth, 1948) and touch of Evil ( touch of evil, 1958). The latter was not published until after Schilling's death.

Schilling was married to the burlesque artist Betty Rowland. However, the marriage ended in divorce. Schilling, who had been a heavy smoker, died in 1957, four days before his 49th birthday in his apartment in Hollywood of a heart attack.
