Gustaf Aulén

Gustaf Gustaf Emanuel Hildebrand Aulén ( born May 15, 1879 in Ljungby, † 16 December 1977) was a Swedish Lutheran theologian and bishop. Aulén taught dogmatic theology and systematic theology in Uppsala, Lund. From 1933 to 1952 he worked Straengnaes as a bishop.

Life

Aulén 1896 was a student at the University of Uppsala. In 1899 he resigned his examination as a candidate from philosophy, 1906, the theological licentiate exam. 1907 Aulén professor of dogmatic theology and moral theology in Uppsala and was ordained a priest in the same year. 1910 he was appointed Professor of Systematic Theology at the University of Lund.

Known primarily for his pioneering work Christus Victor (1930 ), in which he re- wrote the history of the doctrine of atonement. In addition to become known by Anselm and Abelard soteriological approaches he drew attention to the fact that the early church essentially represented a very different, and in his opinion better theological reasonable point of view: the reconciliation between God and man which is occurred in the cross and resurrection of Christ the divine victory over all cosmic powers represent, and makes it the love of God visible. Christus Victor thus takes the eschatological- apocalyptic horizon of the New Testament and the early church seriously.

Although Aulén 's view did not prevail (although he is considered far more in the Anglo-Saxon literature as in German ), presented his dogmatic history work makes an important contribution to theological discussion dar. Recently the American Mennonite theologian Denny Weaver Gustaf Aulén 's has Christus Victor added new theology, in the context of a consistently pacifist theology he presents Victor approach under a narrative of Christ, ie involving the teaching and ministry of Jesus Christ with the doctrine of reconciliation and as a unit of Theology and Ethics provides.

In the Swedish Lutheran Church, he is also known as a composer of church music. Aulén died on 16 December 1977 and is buried in the Norra kyrkogården in Lund.
