Gustav Casmir

Gustav Casmir ( born November 5, 1872 in Berlin, † October 2, 1910 ) was a German fencer.

A native of Berlin Casmir took part in the 1904 Olympic Games in St. Louis, where he finished in fourth place respectively in the singles competitions with the sword and the foil. Two years later he was part of the German team at the DC Games in Athens. Here he advanced with two gold and two silver medals for Germany's most successful participants. Victorious he was in the three- hit saber competition, and with the German saber team. In the final, the saber competition for a hit he lost the Greek Olympic champion from 1896, Ioannis Georgiadis; the foil 's singles final, he lost against Frenchman Georges Dillon Cavanagh.

The nephew of Gustav Casmir, Erwin Casmir, trained from 1908 to 1910 with his uncle in Dresden. Gustav Casmir died of a brain disease.
