Gustav Karl Laube

Gustav Karl Laube ( born January 9, 1839 in Teplitz, Bohemia, † April 12, 1923 in Prague ) was a geologist, paleontologist and explorer.

Life

Laube studied at the universities of Prague, Munich and Tübingen. After receiving his doctorate in 1865 he became Assistant Professor at the Polytechnic Institute in Vienna. In 1866 he was habilitated here for paleontology. 1869/70 he participated in the second German North Polar Expedition in part on the schooner Hansa. After its destruction in October 1869, he drove for 200 days with companions on an ice floe ( journey of Hansa 's Arctic Ocean. Trip letters and reminder sheets, 1871).

In 1871 he became a full professor of mineralogy and geology at the Polytechnic Institute in Prague. In 1876 he became professor of geology and paleontology at the Karl- Ferdinand University. 1893/94 he was its rector.
