Gustavo Gutiérrez

Gustavo Gutiérrez Merino OP ( born June 8, 1928 in Lima, Peru) is co-founder and namesake of liberation theology.

Life

Gutiérrez ' studies in Lyon, Lions, Rome and Paris included medicine, art, philosophy, psychology and theology. He is founder and director of Bartolomé de las Casas Institute. Also, he was appointed to several universities to Doctor honoris causa, including in Tübingen, Quebec and Freiburg im Breisgau. Since 1971 he has worked in the Christian Peace Conference (CFRP ) with. In 2001, he joined the Dominican Order. In 2003 he was awarded the Prince of Asturias Award in the category "Communication and Human Sciences ." He is currently working in the District Rimac in Lima.

Gutiérrez has published more than ten books, of which the most important, Teología de la Liberación (Lima 1972), liberation theology gave its name.
