Gwangju Biennale

The Gwangju Biennale, the first held in the South Korean city Gwangju in 1995, was the first Biennale of contemporary art in Asia.

First: Beyond the Limits ( 1995)

At the first Biennale took part 660 artists from 58 countries. 817 works of art were exhibited. The Gwangju Biennale 2004, curated by Yongwoo Lee and co-curated by Kerry Brougher and Sukwon Chang, acted as an experimental cultural forum of the appreciation of the audience.
