György Dragomán

György Dragomán (* 1973 in Târgu Mureş, Romania), is a Hungarian writer and translator. His novel " The White King " (2005) has been translated into 30 languages. In July 2008, it brought the novel No. 1 on the ORF leaderboard.

Life

The first fifteen years of his life was spent in Dragomán Marosvásárhely, as a member of living in Transylvania the Hungarian minority in Romania. In 1988 his parents emigrated, dentist and teacher, with him and a younger brother to Szombathely in Hungary. He studied languages ​​at the Eotvos Lorand University in Budapest.

His first novel published Dragomán 2002: Unfinished Genesis is a dark and brutal tale of three days in the life of a young architect in the military, which is a witness to a genocide. Dragomán Award for this book in 2003 with the Hungarian Bródy Prize for the best debut of the year. Dragomán has novella Watt translated into a ten-year work of Samuel Beckett into Hungarian. He also translated prose by Irvine Welsh, James Joyce and Ian McEwan. For The White King Dragomán received excellent reviews in the New York Times and other international newspapers.

The author lives with his wife, the poet Anna T. Szabó, and two children in Budapest Budaörs.
