György Sárosi

György Sárosi ( born September 16, 1912 in Budapest, Austria - Hungary, † June 20, 1993 in Genoa, Italy, in Italy, Giorgio Sarosi ) was a Hungarian football player and coach. He was considered one of the outstanding striker of the 1930s.

Career

Sárosi began his career at Mugyetemi At. and moved in 1929 to Ferencvárosi Torna Club, where he remained until the end of his active career in 1948. During this period he won with his club five times the Hungarian Cup, five times the Hungarian Cup and the 1937 Mitropa Cup. During this time he was three times Hungarian scorer. He played 383 league matches for Ferencvaros, where he was able to achieve 351 goals.

In Mitropacup he stood with his team's total of four times in the final, was top scorer with 49 goals and 43 games in the top scorer in the history of this Bewerbes.

As an international, he played 1931-1943 a total of 62 international matches for Hungary, where he was able to achieve 42 goals. He took part in the World Championships in 1934 and 1938. In 1934, he was only used once in the quarterfinals and in the game against Austria scored a goal through a penalty, which the defeat but could not prevent it. In 1938, he denied then four games in which he hit five times, including in the final, which was lost against Italy. Sárosi has at least scored in each of his five World Cup games a hit. He was also top scorer in the European Cup of football teams from 1933 to 1935 and in the canceled competition 1936-1938. In September 1937 he scored in the game against Czechoslovakia seven goals.

After his playing career, he worked as a coach in Italy, where he first of the 1948-1950 AS Bari supervised before he took over after a short stop at Lucchese 1951 Juventus and led to the league title in 1952. In 1953 he moved for two seasons for Genoa CFC and supervised after 1955-1957 AS Roma. Other stations in Italy were the Bologna FC (1957 /58), again the AS Roma in season 1958/59 and Brescia Calcio (1960 /61). After that, he was still coach at FC Lugano in Switzerland.

Sárosi was voted one of the 100 European Player of the Century in 1999 and finished in the election of the century Hungarian footballer fifth place.
