Gyrðir Elíasson

Gyrðir Elíasson ( born April 4, 1961 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic writer.

Life

Gyrðir grew up in Sauðárkrókur on the north west of Iceland, where he also attended school. Later he lived in the western part of the country in Borgarnes and Akranes and finally in Reykjavík. After his graduation in 1982, he studied at the Pedagogical University in Reykjavík. He is a full-time writer and has already published several books of poetry, novels and anthologies of short stories. He lives in Reykjavík, is married and has three daughters. For his work, the author has received several awards. In 1989 he received the Þórbergur Þórðarson - style price, 2000, he was awarded the Icelandic Literature Prize 2011, the Nordic Council Literature Prize he was awarded in Oslo.
