Habib BektaÅŸ

Habib Bektas ( born March 1, 1951 in Salihli, Turkey ) is a Turkish-born writer, journalist and literary translator who published mainly in Germany and in Turkey.

Life and work

Private

Habib Bektas moved in 1972 to Germany. After various activities (factories, restaurants), he opened with his wife Müjgan a restaurant in Erlangen, which they operated until 1986. From 1986 to 1991 he was Mudra - drug assistance Nürnberg eV employed as a drug counselor and outreach worker in drug counseling center. From 1989 to October 2011, he ran with his wife, the theater cafe Erlangen founded by them. Habib Bektas lives with his wife in Erlangen and in Turkey. He has two grown children.

Literary work

Bektas, who early as representatives of contemporary German literature saw itself ( cf. Piper Taschenlexikon the Bavarian contemporary literature, 1986), already wrote as casual workers in Turkey poems that were published in Turkish literature papers. Bektas ' extensive body of work belonging to the poems, short stories and novels, appear both in Turkey as well, translated from Turkish, on the German book market as well as in Greece and Brazil. The first publications of the author in Germany were the poetry and prose collection siege of Life ( 1982 ) and the poetry collection Without you, every city is a desert (1984). Later followed by him even longer stories, plays, novels and children's books. His novel scent of Shadows was founded in 1999 under the title September storm ( Eylül Firtinasi ) from the acclaimed director Atif Yilmaz filmed. Furthermore, many of his stories by Bayerischer Rundfunk and TRT ( Turkish state broadcaster ) were staged. Habib Bektas has also worked as a columnist for the newspapers Yeni Hayat and Evrensel.

In 2005, Bektas together with Yüksel Pazarkaya the Sardis Publishing, a specialty publishing house for contemporary Turkish and Turkish-German literature.
