Hackenberg, Vienna

The Hackenberg is a 306 meter high mountain in the district Sievering part of the 19th district of Vienna Dobling.

The Hackenberg is covered by marine sands and gravel. To the northeast is the mountain from Arbesbach, bordered to the southwest by Krottenbach. Both rivers are today, however, led in this area as a stream channel. The foothills of the mountain to the west extend to the Crimea ( Unterdöbling ). The Hackenberg was first mentioned in 1305 in a bill of sale for Duke Rudolf as " hakkenperge ". The name comes from the old Wiesenmaß hook. The original derivation of the name from the personal name Hacko has now been discarded. On the south slope of Hackenberg was in the Middle Ages, surrounded by vineyards Chlaintzing the place, but which is known only as a deserted village today. Today Hackenberg particular allotments is covered, there have, however, also get some vineyards. Below the summit, the Krottenbachstraße to, is the water tank Hackenberg of Vienna's water supply. On the south slope is since 1883 the Sieveringer cemetery.
