Hadith of Gabriel

The Gabriel - Hadith (Arabic حديث جبرائيل, DMG Hadit Ǧabrā īl ʾ ) is one of the most important in the field of Hadith in Sunni Islam. Its importance stems from the fact that the doctrine is returned from the five pillars of Islam to him.

The Hadith is narrated in different variants that have different isnad - chains. They share the following narrative structure: one day is as the Prophet Mohammed in the company of his companions, a mysterious man comes up to him and asked him about basic faith principles and concepts - mostly " faith ", " Islam ", " good behavior " and " predestination ". The Prophet answered the questions and thus defines these beliefs. Only after the mysterious man is gone, the Prophet explains his companions about his identity: he was the angel Gabriel.

The hadith was included because of its importance in catechism -like almost all later hadith collections, including the Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. In the forties and the collection of an-Nawawi, he is in second place.

The five pillars - Shahada, lettuce, Zakat, Hajj and hem - only in the versions mentioned, which are returned via Umar ibn al - Khattab, the Prophet. In the cited by al -Bukhari version in which Abu Huraira as informant appears before the prophet, however, the Hajj is missing as a fifth column.
