Hainigturm

The Hainigturm is a purpose-built stone tower in Hainig, an old oak trees in the Vogelsberg. The tower stands between Lauterbach, the county seat of Vogelsberg district, and the neighboring villages Rudlos and Angersbach.

Shortly after its founding in 1881 decided the branch club Lauterbach, a branch of the club Vogelsberger heights clubs, the construction of a wooden observation tower in Hainig, which lies at about 440 m altitude. Specifically, it was built on the Hainigkuppe, a crest that is 15 m high and almost entirely consists of closed rock. The inauguration was celebrated on August 6, 1882 as a major event. This tower was the Hainig henceforth frequented much more than destination. However, the joy did not last too long. After a few years fell repairs on, and after 18 years, in 1900, the tower was built with a lot of idealism torn down due to disrepair.

After a few years, then the present stone tower was built on the site of the old wooden tower. The official inauguration took place on 28 May, 1907. With the words " wanderer 's shoes take off, for the place on which you are standing is a holy land ," tried the then Mayor Alexander Stöpler express the mysterious charm that the Hainig practiced since time immemorial to the Lauterbach and their visitors and which should be further enhanced by the newly built tower.

On 17 May 2007, at Hainigturm with a big party the centenary of the tower celebrated.
