Myotis keaysi

Myotis keaysi is a common bat in Latin America from the kind of mouse ears.

Appearance

This species is a small bat with woolly fur. The body length varies from 4.1 to 5.3 cm, plus 3.3 to 4.1 cm tail. The color of the fur varies and can be gray, brown or reddish brown.

Myotis keaysi similar to other South American mouse ears as Myotis nigricans, Myotis Myotis elegans and oxyotus very strong and is hard to distinguish from them. Can you keep apart these types on the basis of characteristics of the skull, the hair of the Uropatagiums and shape of the penis bone.

Dissemination

The northern boundary of the range is located in Tamaulipas ( Mexico). From here Myotis keaysi spread throughout Central America and in western South America (Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador, Bolivia, Argentina). Also on the island of Trinidad, it occurs.

As habitat both rain and dry forests and arid scrubland be accepted. Beds are limestone and tree holes, but today also bridges and roofs.

System

Myotis keaysi was originally regarded as a subspecies of Myotis Myotis nigricans of ruber. 1973 LaVal classified it as a separate species.

There are two subspecies:

  • Myotis keaysi keaysi, in the west of South America
  • Myotis keaysi pilosatibialis, Central America, northern South America and Trinidad
