Hajime Furuta

Hajime Furuta (Japanese古田 肇, Hajime Furuta, * September 13, 1947 in Gifu, Gifu Prefecture ) is a Japanese non-party politician and since 2005 the Governor of Gifu prefecture.

Career

Furuta graduated in 1971 his studies at the Law Faculty of the University of Tokyo and was then an official in the MITI. In 1974 he completed his studies at the École nationale d'administration (ENA ), 1987 he was sent to the New York office of JETRO. In 1994, he was Secretary ( hishokan ) for the Prime Minister Hata and Murayama.

2004 left Furuta MITI to turn to politics. The gubernatorial election in 2005 in Gifu, he won with a clear majority, triggering 16-year incumbent from Hiromu Kajiwara, who did not run. His re-election for a second four-year term on 25 January 2009, supported by the LDP, Kōmeitō and the Prefecture Association of the DPJ: With over 80 % of the vote he hit the CPY -based challenger Kazuhiko Kinoshita.
