Hallgrímur Helgason

Hallgrímur Helgason ( born February 18, 1959 in Reykjavík ) is an Icelandic author.

Life

After studying at the College of Fine and Applied Arts in Reykjavík 1979-80, he attended the Art Academy in Munich one year. Since 1982, he has worked both as an artist and as an author in Reykjavík. His first novel appeared Hella 1990., He had his international breakthrough with the novel 101 Reykjavík, which was filmed in 2000, directed by Baltasar Kormákur.

Besides further novels Hallgrímur Helgason wrote radio plays, essays, plays and performed as a stand- up comedian. In over 20 solo exhibitions and numerous group shows his paintings have been seen in Europe and the USA.

In 2012 he took part in the International Literature Festival Berlin.

For From the dubious pleasure of being dead Hallgrímur Helgason received the 2001 Icelandic Literature Prize. 2010, the price for the oddest book title of the year, he was awarded for Ten tips to end the killing and start the washing up at the Frankfurt Book Fair.
