Halliggye Fogou

The Fogou of Halligye is an Iron Age building on the Trelowarren Estate in Cornwall, 6.4 km southeast of Helston in England. Like other basement ( in Cornwall and Wales Fogou called ) that were found in the British Isles, including Ireland and in other countries, it is an Iron Age system of underground tunnels and chambers or niches. Halligye is one of the longest and best preserved Fogous.

In Halligye form two approximately two meters high gears, one of which is 20 m long and straight, the other 28 feet long and banana-shaped curved and provided with a lateral end chamber, along roughly the shape of a "T". The Fogou was originally a building that is long gone. The walls are partly, the three portals and the ceiling entirely of megaliths and stone slabs. The current entrance at the south end of the main course is latter day.

The Fogou is closed between 1 October and 31 May in order to avoid disturbance of hibernating bats.
