Halmaheramys bokimekot

Halmaheramys bokimekot is occurring on the Indonesian island of Halmahera rodent species from the group of Altweltmäuse ( Murinae ). Genus and species were described only in 2013 and after the distribution area and the locality ( Boki Mekot ) named.

Features

Halmaheramys bokimekot is medium in size and reach a snout-vent length from 14.5 to 16.7 cm, a tail length of 12.0 to 13.2 cm and a weight of 72-99 g The fur is brownish gray on the back rather dark brown and whitish on the ventral side. The hair is long and thick. Are found especially on the back scattered arranged spiny bristles with whitish tips. The undercoat is short and dense, gray on the back side and gray - whitish on the belly. The hair of the fuselage are about 15 to 25 mm long. The vibrissae are long; some are colorless, others black. The eyelids are blackish, covered their ears and brown on both the outside and on the inside with very short, soft hair.

System

Halmaheramys bokimekot heard within the subfamily Altweltmäuse ( Murinae ) to Tribus Rattini and there to an Indo-Pacific rat clade, which also includes the genera Bullimus, Bunomys, Paruromys, Sundamys and Taeromys belong. The ancestors of Halmaheramys bokimekot are likely to come during the middle Miocene on Halmahera, when the island collided northeast of Sulawesi with the Sangihe Islands.
