Hang on the Box

Hang on the Box from Beijing is one of the most successful girl rock band in China.

Band History

Hang on the Box was founded in 1998. In July of 1998, Hang on the Box their first appearance: Wang Yue played guitar and sang, played bass and Yilina Yang Fan sat on drums. In 1999, the then 16 -year-old Shenggy the band and took over the drums, Yang Fan has been guitarist.

In May 2002 their first album "Yellow Banana " was released in China and Japan, where the band soon went on tour. In July 2002, the second studio album " Di Di Di " was released. In March 2003 HOTB went for the first time on American tour. Yang Fan left the band and was replaced by guitarist Xiao Gan. In September 2004 they released their third studio album, mini-album "Foxy Lady ", in which influences of Krautrock, electronica and hip-hop can be heard. In 2006, Hang on the Box, now back into the bag without Xiao Gan and only, at the Beijing Studio by Blixa Bargeld ( Einstürzende Neubauten) their fourth studio album, which was not published until now for legal reasons.

The documentary Beijing Bubbles (2005) accompanied in addition to four other Beijing bands also Hang on the Box for some of her performances in Beijing's underground scene, but gives an insight into their daily lives.
