Hanns Jana

Hanns Jana ( born July 18, 1952 in Tauberbischofsheim ) is a former German fencer who for the Federal Republic of Germany won an Olympic silver medal in the épée team in 1976.

1975 won Jana, who fought for the FC Tauberbischofsheim, surprising the world ranking tournament Monal in Paris. Subsequently, he was nominated as a substitute for the German team at the World Fencing Championships 1975 in Budapest, but did not play. 1976 Jana took sixth place at the Monal and placed himself in fourth place at the German Championship. Behind Alexander Pusch, Jürgen Hehn, Reinhold Fischer Volker Behr and he was the fifth man in the German epee team at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal. He only came in the first round battle against Austria for use with 2:2 battles he helped 10:6 victory. In the Olympic final his teammates were subject to Sweden but won the first Olympic medal by a German épée team at all. In the 1979 World Fencing Championships in Melbourne Hanns Jana fought with the German team in the final against the Soviet Union; Alexander Pusch, Elmar Borrmann, Christian Adrian and Jana won the silver medal. 1980 were these four fencers together with Manfred Beckmann in the squad for the Olympic Games in 1980, but did not participate because of the Olympic boycott.
