Elmar Borrmann

Elmar Borrmann ( born January 18, 1957 in Stuttgart ) is a former German fencer who won two Olympic gold medals and a silver medal with the sword. In World Fencing Championships Elmar Borrmann reached three gold, six silver and three bronze.

Life

Elmar Borrmann 1977 was the first German single master. 1981 and 1984 he was able to repeat the title. In the World Fencing Championships 1979, he won the team silver. After he was unable to attend the Olympic Games in Moscow because of the boycott Olympics 1980, he won at the World Fencing Championship in 1981 in Clermont- Ferrand bronze in the individual standings. Two years later at the World Fencing Championships in Vienna in 1983, he won gold in the individual competition and silver with the team. It would be his last individual medal at World Championships.

In the 1984 Olympics he won a gold medal with the team and was sixth in the individual competition. After he was not part of any national 1985 Elmar Borrmann, together with Alexander Pusch, Volker Fischer and Arnd Schmitt team world champion at the World Fencing Championship in 1986. In the World Fencing Championship in 1987, the 1988 Olympic Games and the World Fencing Championships 1989, he won two silver medals with the team. This was followed by a fourth place in 1990 and bronze at the World Fencing Championship in 1991. His second Olympic gold medal he won in Barcelona in 1992.

In the World Fencing Championships followed in 1993 Bronze, 1994 Silver and 1995 he won his second world title in the team along with Arnd Schmitt, Mariusz Strzałka and Michael Flegler. In his fourth at the Olympics in Atlanta in 1996, he was with the team in fourth. With forty years he won at the World Fencing Championship in 1997 along with Schmitt and Flegler again silver.

Others

His twin brother Igor Borrmann was also epee fencer. Igor was nominated for the 1980 Olympic Games, the Olympic boycott of the Federal Republic of Germany cost him to participate. Qualification for the 1984 Games in Los Angeles missed Igor Borrmann just barely, he was not the first substitutes the West German epee squad will train for.

In the senior level Igor Borrmann is the more successful of the two brothers, has already celebrated European title in Ü40 area. Igor is challenging for the TSF Ditzingen. Two of his three children, Constance (* 1997) and Carmen * (1994 ) challenge for Tauberbischofsheim. Both are very successful and talented fencers and have multiple titles fetched. His third child, Philip ( * 2000 ) is not a fencer, he plays for TTC Bietigheim table tennis
