Hans Blokland (politician)

Johannes ( Hans) Blokland ( born March 5, 1943 in Oegstgeest ) is a Dutch politician ( ChristianUnion ).

Blokland graduated in 1970 from the University and in 1976 Doctor of Economics. He first worked as a researcher at the Netherlands Institute of Economics. For many years he was a lecturer at the Erasmus University. He also headed the planning of the State Authority for Regional Planning (1976-1980) and the scientific service in the Central Statistical Office. He was a member from 1987 to 2000 the Advisory Committee on Foreign Affairs in the Ministry of Justice.

Blokland belonged to before the founding of ChristianUnion one of the predecessor parties, the GPV. There he was first deputy chairman of the local branch, then a board member and Chairman of the County Council, later a member of the Executive Committee of 1984-1994 and its chairman. Blokland belonged from 1974 to 1994 the city council of Capelle aan den IJssel to where he was for some time also Assistant. From 1982 to 1995 he was a member of the Provincial Council of South Holland. From 1994 to 2009 he was a member of the European Parliament. There he worked for several years co-chair of the Group of EDD.
