Hans-Georg Koitz

Hans -Georg Koitz ( born April 4, 1935 in Striegau, Silesia) is a retired auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Hildesheim.

Life

Koitz studied philosophy and Catholic theology in Frankfurt am Main and Munich. On June 30, 1962 he was ordained a priest in Salzgitter Lebenstedt. After the chaplain from 1962 to 1965 he worked for two years as a missionary in Nigeria. Back in the diocese, he was a religion teacher at the Gymnasium Josephinum Hildesheim. Bishop Heinrich Maria Janssen appointed him in 1974 rector of the Episcopal seminary, which he headed for 18 years. On August 24, 1992, Pope John Paul II appointed titular bishop of Cantanus and Auxiliary Bishop of Hildesheim. The episcopal ordination he received on 25 October 1992 the bishop of Hildesheim Josef Homeyer; Co-consecrators were the two auxiliary bishops of Hildesheim Pachowiak Heinrich and Heinrich making.

After John Paul II had accepted the resignation of the Hildesheim Diocesan Bishop Josef Homeyer on 20 August 2004 due to reaching the age limit, Koitz was serving as the senior suffragan law of the Church temporarily head of the diocese of Hildesheim and was on 23 August 2004 by the Hildesheim cathedral chapter to the diocesan Administrator selected. On February 11, 2006 Norbert Trelle took over the office of bishop.

Koitz is about his retirement as Bishop also dean in Hildesheim and president of the Hildesheim cathedral music. Until his retirement he was a member of the Commissions "Spiritual professions and Church Services" and "Education and Schools" of the German Bishops' Conference.

After the completion of his 75th year of life Bishop Koitz was adopted on 1 May 2010 in a Pontifical Mass in the Basilica of St. Godehard to retire.
