Hans Gericke

Hans Gericke ( born July 27, 1912 in Magdeburg, † February 15, 2014 ) was a German architect and urban planner.

Life

Hans Gericke studied from 1931 to 1937 architecture at the Technical University of Hanover. After he stayed to study three years in Italy. In 1933 he joined the NSDAP. During the Second World War he worked on Sylt, in Brussels and Italy in his profession.

1951 Gericke personal assistant to the Minister of Construction GDR, Lothar Bolz. After that, he was councilor for construction in East Berlin and fought for the reconstruction of the Forum Fridericianum. Also in the planning of NDPD house (Berlin, Mohrenstrasse 20/21) he was involved.

From 1953 to 1958, Gericke was deputy director of the Institute for Theory and History of Architecture at the German School of Architecture, from then until 1965, chief architect of East Berlin. In addition, he was from 1952 to 1986 Vice- President of the Federal German architects in the GDR ( BdA ). He has received several awards, among others, 1961 with the Goethe Prize of the city of Berlin as well as the Patriotic Order of Merit of the GDR.
