Hans Goldschmidt

Hans Goldschmidt, actually: John Wilhelm Goldschmidt ( born January 18, 1861 in Berlin, † May 21 1923 in Baden -Baden ) was a German chemist. He was the inventor of the thermite.

Life and work

He studied as his older brother Karl Goldschmidt chemistry at the University of Heidelberg with Robert Wilhelm Bunsen. In 1888, he joined the management of his father's firm " Chemische Fabrik Th Goldschmidt " one.

Developed by him thermite is still regarded worldwide as a quality unsurpassed standard procedures for the welding of ferrous and tram tracks. After his death during a cure in Baden -Baden, he was laid to rest in the Protestant cemetery in Berlin - Jerusalem and New Parish I, in the Dept. 3/1.

Goldschmidt was a patron of the Essen Kunstmuseum.
