Hans Graf

Hans Graf ( * February 15, 1949 in Marchtrenk, Upper Austria ) is an Austrian conductor.

Career

Hans Graf studied piano as a child and studied at the Musikhochschule in Graz piano and conducting ( completion 1971). He attended master classes with Franco Ferrara in Siena and Hilversum as well as Sergiu Celibidache in Bologna and spent a year studying at the Conservatory in Leningrad Arvid Jansons ( State Grant ).

In 1979 he won the first prize at the Karl Böhm Competition in Salzburg. In 1980 he made ​​his debut with the Vienna Symphony and in 1981 at the Vienna State Opera. In the 1980s, followed by engagements in opera houses in Munich, Paris, Rome, Berlin, at the Salzburg Festival, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, Aix -en- Provence, Savonlinna and 1987 the debut with the Vienna Philharmonic. He works since the 1990s, mainly in the USA. In addition to existing since 1995 collaboration with the Boston Symphony Orchestra was followed by appearances with the Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Los Angeles Philharmonic.

He was from 1984-1994 chief conductor of the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg and the Salzburg State Theatre, where he directed thirty opera premieres. After that was Count Principal Conductor of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi (1994-1996), the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra (1994-2002), the Orchestre National Bordeaux Aquitaine and the Opéra National de Bordeaux (1998-2004), and the Houston Symphony Orchestra (2001 - 2013).

In the summer of 2013, he returned with three programs at the Salzburg Festival. Since October 2013 he is Professor of Orchestral Conducting at the University Mozarteum Salzburg.
